根據歐洲區 Sony PlayStation Store 網路商店向會員發出的電子報，在 2014 年 9 月 15 日之後，PlayStation Portable 將無法登入 PlayStation Store，也無法再透過 PlayStation Portable 主機直接下再數位內容，不過玩家還是可以透過 PlayStation 3 與電腦進行下載並傳送至 PlayStation Portable。

PlayStation Portable 是 Sony 旗下第一款掌上型遊戲主機，從 2004 年 12 月 12 日發售至今已將近 10 個年頭，在當時以 UMD 光碟做為遊戲儲存媒體造成不小轟動。另一方面，PlayStation Portable 也是 Sony 第一款具有實用價值韌體升級功能的主機，PlayStation Portable 不斷透過韌體升級的方式追加許多功能，包括支援更多格式的音樂、影片、圖片等多媒體檔案外，也陸續加入如 Skype、1seg 數位電視、支援專屬攝影機等功能。
不過 PlayStation Portable 後期的更新內容，大多集中於「已改善使用某些機能時系統軟件之安定性」，換成白話就是修補系統安全性的漏洞，避免玩家執行非授權的程式，比較少提供新功能。現在 PlayStation Portable 的生命週期已經結束，PlayStation Portable 的最後一次系統更新發佈於 2011 年 8 月 10 日，隨後 Sony 於 2011 年 12 月 17 日推出後續機種 PlayStation Vita，PlayStation Portable 也於 2014 年 6 月開始停止出貨。
根據歐洲區 Sony PlayStation Store 網路商店向會員發出的電子報，PlayStation Store 網路商店將從 2014 年 9 月 15 日開始，停止對 PlayStation Portable 提供服務，不過其中只有提到將停只歐洲與 PAL 規範地區（主要為歐洲，詳細區域可參考此地圖）服務，其於地區則未確定。
在 PlayStation Store 無法登入 PlayStation Store 的情況下，使用者還是可以透過PlayStation 3 下載、儲存數位內容，並將內容傳送至 PlayStation Portable。另外玩家也可以在電腦上安裝 MediaGO 程式 s，透過專屬程式下載、管理各式數位內容。
這個服務的改變將不會透過更新韌體的方式進行，而是直接從伺服器端中止對 PlayStation Portable 的服務，不過在 9 月 15 日之後，玩家還是可以使用 PlayStation Vita 內的 PlayStation Store 程式下載 PlayStation Portable 相關遊戲。不知道這個改變是否是為了因應即將登場的免費 UMD Passport 服務，時間點相當敏感。
