英國時事評論雜誌《經濟學人》（The Economist）以一篇「On the antlers of a dilemma（鹿茸上的兩難困境）」來評論馬英九總統。
antler是鹿角、鹿茸，以馬總統最近的「鹿茸」之說轉自片語「on the horn of a dilemma（進退兩難）」。
文章的副標這麼寫道：「馬英九──這位台灣的總統，他的企圖心與大眾對中國的疑慮有所衝突。」英語上，如此呈現：
The ambitions of Ma Ying-jeou, Taiwan’s president, collide with popular suspicion of China.
馬英九的企圖心
ambition讀作[æmˋbɪʃən]，它的形容詞是ambitious。ambition與popular都是國際職場與多益測驗的核心字。ambition可以指「企圖心」或是「野心」；popular雖是指「愛歡迎的、流行的」，亦指「普遍的」，所以此句的popular suspicion應是指「大眾普遍的疑慮」。
例句：
Your goal of raising one million dollars is quite ambitious.（你的募款一百萬美金可真是遠大的目標。）
This restaurant is extremely popular with local people.（這家餐廳極受當地人歡迎。）
9趴的總統
馬英九的施政因為幾項公共政策不得民心，去年的支持度一度掉到9%。此篇文章說馬英文曾經是國民黨最受歡迎的政治人物，如今卻被政治對手引用去年秋天的民意支持度，譏為9趴總統。
And Mr. Ma, once the KMT’s most popular politician, is taunted by opponents as the “9% president”, a reference to his approval ratings in opinion polls last autumn.
句中的「once the KMT’s most popular politician」與「a reference to his approval ratings in opinion polls last autumn」都是同位語的用法，旨在替前面的名詞Mr. Ma與9% president做資訊的提供。
reference與approval都是國際職場與多益測驗的核心字彙，reference有「參考、提及、引用」之意，在此是引馬總統的政敵所引用的9趴（9%）數據。approval是名詞，它的動詞是approve，有「批准、同意」之意，但是在新聞英語中，approval ratings現在多指民意支持度。
例句：
The CEO has approved a purchase order for a new manufacturing machine.（執行長已批准新生產設備的採購單。）
馬習高峰會？
馬英九總統的dilemma（兩難）在於經濟內政與兩岸關係糾結在一起。學生的反服貿情緒相當程度是反中情緒的投射，但是兩岸簽署的服貿協議卻又是經濟發展之必需。尤其「馬習會」的可能性甚囂塵上，令反對黨頗為不安。該文認為馬英九總統希望今年11月北京召開的亞太經合會（APEC），能夠出席參加，並與中國的習近平見上一面。原文是這麼寫的：
Mr. Ma hoped to meet China’s president, Xi Jinping, in Beijing this November, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) summit.
句中的summit是指山的峰頂、尖峰，但是現今的新聞英語裡用它來指兩國元首之間的「高峰會議」，又簡稱為「峰會」。

The producers are still waiting for network ________ to broadcast the television show for another year.

解析：
本題的正確答案是(C)。network是「頻道、網絡、網路」，而network approval是指「頻道放映許可權」。所以全句句意為「製作人仍在等待電視公司的放映許可，以延長播放節目一年。」
句中的approval即為前面所提馬英九總統民意支持度approval ratings中的「批准、認可、贊同」。
